Looking forward to NICE AGM

Community Energy NI will be taking in the Northern Ireland Community Energy (NICE) AGM later this month. The AGM will include a discussion on community energy with confirmed speakers Lauri McCusker, on behalf of Community Energy NI and Andrew McMurray from Drumlin Wind Energy Co-operative.

The event will be taking place as part of Community Energy Fortnight (3rd-18th September). The widely spread initiative, co-ordinated by the Community Energy Coalition showcases inspiring examples of co-operatives and promotes discussion on good practice and policy development.

This year’s Community Energy Fortnight theme ‘Powering Forward’ aims to bring the discussion on options available to local communities in regards to energy.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity for NICE to update members on their second shared offer. Last year NICE raised an impressive £150,000 with it’s first community share issue, enabling solar PV installations to benefit 13 organisations. The Fermanagh Trust, which administers Community Energy NI, was one of the first shareholders in the original offer.

The AGM will provide a valuable opportunity to discuss and reflect on the policy context in Northern Ireland, the Programme for Government and how we can build on existing examples in terms of policy development..
